WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. - The Jersey Shore BlueClaws hit three home runs to down the Hudson Valley Renegades 9-3 on Wednesday night at Heritage Financial Park.
For the second straight evening, Jersey Shore scored first with a three-run second inning. After Baron Stuart (1-1) retired the first four batters of the game, Otto Kemp walked and Jared Carr singled to bring up Leandro Pineda who hit a three-run home run to right field to give the BlueClaws a 3-0 lead.
The Renegades cut into the deficit with a run in the fourth against Gunner Mayer. Ben Cowles laced a two-out double before Jesus Rodriguez singled him home to cut the Jersey Shore advantage to 3-1. Rodriguez went on to finish the night 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored.
The BlueClaws blew the game open with a five-run fifth inning. The frame was highlighted by another Jersey Shore three-run home run, this time from Caleb Ricketts. Marcus Lee Sang and Rixon Wingrove each collected a pair of RBI singles as well to pad the BlueClaws lead to 8-1.
Their final tally came on a Wingrove solo home run off Mason Vinyard in the seventh to extend the BlueClaws lead to 9-1.
Hudson Valley plated another run against Mayer (2-6) in the seventh. Rodriguez began the frame with a single before Spencer Henson ripped an RBI double down the left field line to make it a 9-2 contest. Jared Wegner singled home Rodriguez in the ninth to finish off the game's scoring at 9-3.
Out of the bullpen, Harrison Cohen tossed 1.2 scoreless frames to extend his scoreless streak to 13.0 innings over his last eight-plus appearances. The last run to cross the plate against the right-hander came on July 5 at Jersey Shore.
The Renegades and BlueClaws continue their six-game series at Heritage Financial Park on Thursday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. with coverage on the Renegades Baseball Network beginning at 6:45 p.m. Hudson Valley has yet to name a starter while Jersey Shore will send RHP Mitch Neunborn (1-2, 4.35) to the hill.
