Winston-Salem Dash News Release
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Dash secured a series victory by taking down Greensboro 7-3.
Greensboro got a run across in the top of the first inning, when Dariel Lopez blasted a solo home run into the Appalachian Mountain Brew-Pen. The 'Hoppers got another run in the second, on a Jackson Glenn solo blast over the short wall in right field.
Another run came across in the third for Greensboro.
Sammy Siani punched a single into right field to lead things off, then Lopez picked up a single as well with Siani moving first to third. The very next batter Abrahan Gutierrez drove a ball down the right field line, which was deep enough to plate Siani on a sacrifice fly.
From there, Dash starter Chase Solesky settled down nicely. He retired the Grasshoppers in order in both the fourth and fifth inning, keeping the Dash well within striking distance in a 3-0 ballgame.
In the fifth, Duke Ellis picked up a one-out single, followed by a Terrell Tatum walk. Oscar Colas dug in next, and he got a 1-0 pitch to hit and blasted it out to right for a game-tying, three run home run.
Solesky put up another zero in the top of the sixth, then Tyler Osik led off the home half with a walk. He was erased on a fielder's choice groundout by Alsander Womack, but Womack was safe at first base. The Dash second baseman then stole second, took third base on one wild pitch, before scoring from third on another wild pitch to give Winston-Salem their first lead of the game at 4-3. The inning rolled on with a Jason Matthews walk, followed by a Duke Ellis double. Then, Terrell Tatum drove the two of them in with his laser double into the right-centerfield gap, which put the Dash ahead 6-3.
Winston-Salem called upon Trey Jeans in the seventh inning, and he struck a pair of 'Hoppers in a 1-2-3 frame.
Luis Mieses opened the bottom of the seventh with a single. He was then pushed to second on a fielder's choice, and then on to third by a Tyler Osik single. With runners on the corners now, Alsander Womack singled through the right side of the infield to plate Mieses and put Winston-Salem up 7-3.
Jeans racked up two more strikeouts in the eighth to tie his season high with four, before Vince Vannelle relieved him and picked up the final out of the inning.
In the top of the ninth, Vannelle gave up a leadoff double to Jacob Gonzalez. But the right-hander sent the next two batters down on strikes, and induced a pop out to lock down a 7-3 Dash win. Solesky picked up the official win, and Michell Milliano took the loss.
