Game No. 57 | Road Game No. 25 | 2011 Home Record 16-16 | 2011 Road Record 10-14

LHP Joe Serafin (0-4, 5.52) @ RHP Wilfredo Boscan (0-2, 4.88)

Warm Front: The Dash finished up a hot home stand on Sunday afternoon with a 6-4 win over the Kinston Indians. Winston scored two in the first inning, only to see the K-Tribe strike for four in the second to take the lead. The Dash got the deficit to one run in the third before a three-run fifth inning pushed them into the lead for good. Cameron Bayne overcame a shaky second to pitch seven innings for his fifth win while Taylor Thompson finished the game for his fifth save. With the win, Winston-Salem won the series and finished 5-2 on the home stand, capturing both series against the Nationals and Indians.

It's not Abner's Doubles Day, it's Gac's: Indians right fielder Abner Abreu saw his fellow corner outfielder Bo Greenwell get quite the workout thanks to Ian Gac yesterday. Gac doubled three times to the left field corner and accounted for nearly every run the Dash scored against the K-Tribe. He scored twice and drove in three runs. Gac hopes that yesterday's game ignites an emergence from his recent slump. Prior to yesterday's game, the slugging first baseman had just ten hits in his previous 64 at bats, a .156 batting average. Yesterday was his second three-hit game of the season and his first since April 21 against Wilmington. The three-double day was Gac's first since May 21, 2008 when he was playing for the Clinton LumberKings in the Rangers farm system.

Remix to Ignition: Jose Martinez is happy to hit the road after a rough home stand that saw his batting average drop 28 points to .300 from a league-leading .328. Café was 1 for 23 on the home stand entering the finale, but showed signs of getting hot again with his 2 for 4 game yesterday. The Dash needs their right fielder to stay productive at the plate; he is the team's only hitter with a batting average higher than .262. Without Martinez, the team's average would be .223, nine points lower than its current .232 mark.

Silver Beats Bronze: Part of the reason for Martinez' recent struggles may be linked to where he has been hitting in the order. In an effort to jump-start Jared Mitchell a few weeks ago, Julio Vinas decided to flip-flop Martinez and Mitchell in the batting order by having latter bat second and the former hit third. While this appears to have worked for Mitchell - he is hitting .333 in the two spot as opposed to .197 in the three hole - it has had the opposite effect on Martinez. Café was a .347 batter hitting second and has only been hitting .197 when moved down one spot in the lineup card.

Corporate Family Feud: Tonight the Dash begin a four-game road trip at Myrtle Beach and BB&T Coastal Field, a house of horrors lately for Winston-Salem. While the Dash have been terrific at BB&T Ballpark (63-38 in 101 regular season games), the last year has not been kind for the squad at the home of the Pelicans. Since sweeping a four-game series in Myrtle Beach early last season, the Dash have yet to find a win at BB&T South. Winston-Salem has lost nine straight ballgames at the home of the Pelicans by a combined score of 45-22. Most of the games have been close, with only one being decided by more than three runs; five of the nine losses have been by just one run. The Dash have had similar luck against Myrtle overall this season, dropping six of the first seven matchups between the teams.

Tribe Came in Peace: The Dash are sad to see the Kinston Indians depart from BB&T Ballpark. The K-Tribe has lost 24 of its last 27 games in the city of Winston-Salem. In 2009, Kinston won the first game it played at Gene Hooks Field at Wake Forest Baseball Park, but lost its last nine. The Indians lost eight in a row at BB&T Ballpark before picking up their first win at the new yard on July 27 of last year. The 17-game losing streak in Winston-Salem spanned nearly 14 months; 11 of those Dash wins were by just one run. The K-Tribe has not won consecutive games in Winston-Salem since August 25-27 of 2008 and has not won a series in the Twin City since August of 2007, a span of 11 straight series without a series victory.

Easy to Reed: Addison Reed had another scoreless appearance Friday night, making it five in a row and ten straight innings since allowing his last run. With four more strikeouts against the K-Tribe, Reed upped his total with the Dash to 33 in 24.1 innings. The hard-throwing right-hander is among the CL leaders in many categories. Among relievers, Reed is fifth in opponent batting average (.196), third in K/9 IP (12.21), first in fewest BB/9 IP (1.11), and fourth in fewest baserunners/9 IP (8.51).

Playing them close to the vest: The Dash have an inordinate number of close games this season, as 44 of the team's 56 games have been decided by three runs or fewer and the team has had a lead in 43 games this season. Winston has played 21 one-run games and 15 two-run games. The Dash are 10-11 in one-run games and 8-7 in two run contests. At this rate, the Dash would play 90 one - or two-run games this season.

Role Play: Once again, the Dash Winston-Salem did not have any home runs last night, but still leads the CL with 50 homers, seven more than second place Lynchburg. The Dash led the Carolina League in dingers last year with 112 and the team is on pace to blast 127 in 2011.

Today's Opposing Starter: RHP Wilfredo Boscan (0-2, 4.88) makes his fifth start and seventh appearance of the season for the Pelicans and his first against the Dash. He made two relief appearances before moving into the rotation, where got off to a rocky start in his first two outings, allowing 11 runs in 10.1 innings. He has been good in his last two starts, however, allowing just three runs in 11.2 innings with ten strikeouts and three walks. Boscan joined the Pelicans from AA Frisco, where he struggled to start the season. He went 1-3 with a 6.95 ERA in five starts, surrendering 30 hits in 22 innings. Last year for Advanced-A Bakersfield, Boscan went 9-14 with a 4.67 ERA in 27 starts, striking out 130 and walking 40 in 163.2 innings. He was tied for ninth in the California League in wins, second in innings, and fifth in strikeouts. His finest season as a professional came in 2008, his first year stateside. He was a Northwest League All-Star after going 9-1 with a 3.12 ERA in 15 games (12 starts). His nine wins led the league and he struck out 70 while walking only 11 in 69.1 innings. Boscan was signed as a 16-year-old in 2006 out of Maracaibo, Venezuela.
