DASH SPLIT DOUBLEHEADER WITH HOT RODS
The Winston-Salem Dash split the Thursday doubleheader with the Bowling Green Hot Rods, dropping game one 3-2 before upending Bowling Green 9-4 in game two.
In game one, the Dash fell into a 3-0 hole after a homerun from Alika Williams and RBIs from Jordan Qzar and Logan Driscoll put the Hot Rods firmly in the lead. In the sixth, the Dash put a scare into Bowling Green, plating a pair on a wild pitch and subsequent RBI from Luis Curbelo, cutting the deficit to 3-2. The Dash bats fell short in the seventh, handing the Hot Rods a game one win.
In the second game, Bowling Green positioned themselves for a doubleheader sweep until the sixth inning. With the Dash trailing 4-3, Winston-Salem exploded for six runs in the frame, highlighted by a Jeremiah Burks three-run homer to break the game open. Two batters later, Jose Rodriguez muscled a solo homer to left center to extend the lead, cinching the game two win.
With the victory, the Dash lead the six-game series 2-1. Luis Mieses, Burks, and Rodriguez all smacked homers in the game two win. Gunnar Troutwine drove in a pair of runs in the victory, stretching his hitting streak to a career-high 10 games.
SIGNED, SEALED, DELIVERED
For the fifth straight season, the Bowling Green Hot Rods clinched a postseason berth. With their game one victory, the Hot Rods notched their 76th win of the season and a playoff appearance, where they will either play the Hudson Valley Renegades or the Greensboro Grasshoppers.
As for their opponent, Greensboro's magic number to clinch the second playoff spot is four. While the Grasshoppers can clinch with a combination of four Greensboro wins or Renegades losses, the 'Hoppers can still chase the top seed in the High-A East playoffs, trailing Bowling Green by five games with nine games remaining.
Bowling Green and Greensboro have squared off 12 times this year, with the Hot Rods winning eight of 12.
A LOOK AT SOME FORMER DASH
The Dash have sent a multitude of players to both Double-A Birmingham and Triple-A Charlotte this year, with many of them exceeding expectations.
After receiving a promotion on August 25, Declan Cronin has settled in with the Barons in limited action. In four appearances, Cronin has allowed just one run, tallying five innings and two strikeouts.
While in Winston-Salem, Caleb Freeman was a reliable and steady relief arm - something that has continued in Double-A. Through 12 appearances, Freeman holds a 1.80 ERA while converting both of his save chances, striking out 20 in 15 innings in '21.
At the plate, Yolbert Sanchez has continued his torrid stretch of hitting, slashing .331/.356/.457 in 34 games with the Barons. Both Sanchez and infield mate Lenyn Sosa have brought their brand of solid defense to Birmingham, pacing the Barons up the middle.
GUNNAR THE HITTER
Riding a 10-game hitting streak, Gunnar Troutwine continues to buoy the Winston-Salem Dash offense. While the Dash have hit .253 as a team with runners in scoring position in 2021, Troutwine has batted .320 with RISP, slashing .320/.455/.480 with runners at second or third during the '21 campaign. To boot, the Dash catcher has driven in 10 and walked seven times with RISP, extending the Dash offensive threat when Winston-Salem most needs the offensive production.
A PREVIEW OF TOMORROW
The Dash will work through potential starters at the conclusion of Friday's game, announcing a starter before Saturday's contest.
Bowling Green sends righty Taj Bradley to the bump in the penultimate game of the series. Bradley, a fifth-round pick in 2018, is slated for his seventh start with the Hot Rods after receiving a promotion from Low-A Charleston on August 3. In six starts with Bowling Green, Bradley has struck out 35 batters in 28.2 innings, amassing a 2-0 record and 2.20 ERA.
