BATTENFIELD LEADS DASH IN 7-3 WIN
Blake Battenfield recorded six strong innings on Friday night at Potomac, and the Dash offense scored four unanswered runs en route to a 7-3 win on Friday night at Pfitzner Stadium. Battenfield went six innings and allowed four hits and three runs while striking out four. The former Oklahoma State star has now rattled off four consecutive quality starts and five overall in six outings. With the game tied at three, Winston plated three in the seventh to go ahead, with the deciding hit coming on an RBI single from Jameson Fisher.
THE BIG GUY IS MOVING ON UP
The White Sox have announced on Saturday that right-hander Alec Hansen has earned a promotion to Double-A Birmingham from Winston-Salem. After posting two scoreless innings on Friday night, Hansen leaves the Dash having allowed just one hit in 12.2 innings pitched. The right-hander struck out 21 batters in that span and yielded a 2.13 ERA. As a corresponding move, right-hander Jose Nin has been transferred from Triple-A Charlotte to Winston-Salem. In eight outings prior to his brief call-up to the Knights, Nin posted a 3.65 ERA with Winston.
NOTABLE TRANSACTIONS THIS WEEK
Along with Hansen's news, there have been other notable moves affecting the Dash this week. Former Dash outfielder Luis Robert, who was named the White Sox Minor League Player of the Month for April, was promoted to the Double-A Birmingham Barons on Tuesday. Prior to his promotion, Robert led the Carolina League in batting average (.453), home runs (eight), RBIs (24), on-base percentage (.512), slugging percentage (.920), OPS (1.432), triples (three), extra-base hits (16) and total bases (69). Left-hander Kyle Kubat, who went 2-0 with a 1.23 ERA in four starts for the Dash this year, was also promoted to Birmingham on Tuesday. Meanwhile, outfielder Steele Walker earned a promotion that same day to Winston-Salem from Low-A Kannapolis, where he posted a .365/.437/.581 batting line in 20 games this year.
WE SOMEHOW MEET AGAIN
Following its four-game series at home against Potomac, Winston-Salem is now in the midst of a three-game set against the Nationals at Pfitzner Stadium. When Sunday's series finale comes to a close, the Dash and P-Nats will have played one another 15 times in 24 games. After Friday's win, the Dash have the season series edge at 7-6.
HENZMAN TAKES THE HILL SATURDAY
Right-hander Lincoln Henzman, who is ranked the 26th-best prospect in the White Sox system per MLB Pipeline, will get the ball in Saturday's middle match against Potomac. Before joining the White Sox organization, Henzman was a star closer for the University of Louisville, earning First-Team All-ACC honors and the NCBWA Stopper of the Year award as a junior in 2017. Despite making a transition to a new role, Henzman was stellar in the rotation for the Dash and the Intimidators last year. Henzman posted a 2.23 ERA in 13 starts for Kannapolis before earning a midseason promotion. With Winston-Salem, Henzman yielded a 2.03 ERA in a starting role. He earned his first High-A win on Monday against Potomac, allowing three runs in five innings of work.
THE MAN WHO DOESN'T STRIKE OUT
After striking out just five times in 155 at-bats in his first professional season, Dash second baseman Nick Madrigal went 17 games without striking out before being punched out in the sixth inning on Monday. Overall, Madrigal's non-strikeout stretch spanned 67 at-bats and 75 plate appearances. Madrigal's last strikeout prior to Monday came on April 7 against the Wilmington Blue Rocks. In his career, Madrigal has now posted two stretches of 70-plus plate appearances without a strikeout, with the other instance coming at the start of his professional career when he had 72 plate appearances without a strikeout.
