WINSTON ROLLS HILLCATS, CLAIMS SET

Starter Matt Heidenreich logged six strong innings, and Winston-Salem seized control with a five-run second inning in an 8-1 shellacking of the Lynchburg Hillcats on Friday night at BB&T Ballpark. In the go-ahead second, T.J. Williams delivered a two-run triple, and Jake Peter capped the fun with a two-run double. In all, four Dash hitters posted two-RBI games. This was plenty of offense for Heidenreich, who posted his sixth quality start in nine 2015 outings. The Coronado, Calif., native gave up one unearned run on six hits en route to his seventh win.

LUCKY SEVEN

With his victory, Heidenreich became the fourth pitcher in the Minor Leagues to reach seven personal victories. Lancaster's Shane Dawson and Hickory's Ariel Jurado have also won seven contests, while Jacob Faria of the Charlotte Stone Crabs is alone at the top with eight wins. Coincidentally, Heidenreich was also the fourth hurler to reach five (May 7) and six wins (May 17) in the Minors. There are only four Major League pitchers with at least seven victories, led by Seattle's Felix Hernandez (8).

PITCHING PROWESS

Winston-Salem is 5-10 in its last 15 games, but its pitching staff has been outstanding during this rough patch. The Dash own a 2.15 earned run average (32 ER in 133.2 IP) since May 13. In these 15 contests, the Dash have given up more than three earned runs just three times. As a result, Winston is second in the Carolina League with a 3.09 ERA. Only Wilmington (2.70) has a better mark on the eight-team circuit, while Salem is on the Dash's heels in third at 3.20.

BAT BOUNCE BACK

When Winston was mired in its 3-10 stretch from May 13-27, its offense had mustered just 29 total runs (2.2/game), with a whopping 12 of them coming in one game (12-1 win vs. Salem on May 17). However, the Dash have plated 15 in their last two contests, their highest two-game total since May 7 and 8.

PLENTY OF ROSTER MOVES

The Dash's roster has experienced significant changes over the last two days. On Friday, the White Sox announced that Jeremy Dowdy was re-assigned to the Dash from Triple-A Charlotte. Fellow catcher Ryan Plourde was sent to extended spring training. Also, southpaw Sean Hagan was sent to Charlotte for one day, during which he turned in three scoreless innings for the Knights. The Sox shipped Hagan to Double-A Birmingham on Saturday. Zach Isler, who enjoyed a two-day stay in the International League, is back with the Dash, as is fellow right-hander Euclides Leyer from the disabled list.

94 INNINGS IN THE MAKING

With a majestic blast to the bridge in right field in Friday night's eighth inning, Trey Michalczewski emphatically ended the Dash's 94-inning home run drought. Winston-Salem had not gone yard since May 17, when the club launched a season-high four home runs. Winston-Salem hit more home runs than any Carolina League club from 2010-2014, and the club paced the circuit in bombs in four of those five seasons. However, the Dash's 17 long balls this year are tied for fifth in the Carolina League.

SOLVING SALEM

Once again, the Dash welcome the Salem Red Sox to BB&T Ballpark for a four-game set. Once this series ends, Winston-Salem will have played 14 of its previous 20 games against its division rival. In the first 10 meetings, Salem is 7-3, including a two-out-of three take from the Dash in the Triad from May 15-17. In these 10 games, the Dash have permitted just 3.5 runs per game, but they are hitting .219 as a club.

DASH DOTS

Before this seven-game homestand began, the Dash were tied with fellow High-A squads Frederick and Bradenton for the fewest home games in the Minor Leagues (17)...Saturday marks James Dykstra's second start since his activation off the disabled list (back)...Dykstra went five and gave up two runs Sunday in Salem.
