Winston-Salem Dash News Release

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Jake Peter's two-out, eighth-inning home run snapped a tie and sent the Winston-Salem Dash to a 3-1 series-opening victory Saturday over the Salem Red Sox at BB&T Ballpark.

Ethan Wilson walked to lead off a tie game in the eighth. Two batters later, Peter launched his first homer of the season off Chandler Shepherd (0-1) to put the Dash (21-28) up for the first time in the contest.

Salem (25-24) had threatened in the top of the eighth, putting a runner on third with one out. However, Devon Davis (1-0) struck out both Kevin Heller and Wendell Rijo to end the threat and keep the scored knotted at one.

Davis went three innings, yielding just one hit and matching a season-high for any Winston reliever with five strikeouts en route to the win.

The Red Sox opened the game's scoring in the fourth on an RBI groundout by Mario Martinez. That was the only blemish for Dash starter James Dykstra, who fanned eight against two walks and six hits in six innings.

Winston-Salem fought right back in the bottom of the fourth. Trey Michalczewski drew a one-out walk immediately before Omar Narvaez doubled him in to tie the game at one.

The Dash go for their fourth win in a row Sunday when Jace Fry (1-7, 3.14 ERA) takes the mound against Salem's Kevin McAvoy (3-3, 3.19 ERA). Television coverage of the game will be available at 2 p.m. on My48. Pregame radio coverage is available at 1:45 p.m. with first pitch at 2 p.m. on wsdash.com/broadcast and the TuneIn app.

Hot dogs and sodas are just $1 through the end of the second inning of Sunday's contest. Plus, a few Dash players will be available before the game for autographs on a Family Sunday. For tickets, visit wsdash.com.
