Winston-Salem Dash News Release
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Winston-Salem Dash put together a late comeback bid, but ultimately fell 10-6 to the Asheville Tourists.
In the bottom of the first for the Tourists, Michael Sandle walked, then JC Correa singled. Luis Santana then gave Asheville an early 1-0 lead with his RBI single to plate Sandle. Asheville then doubled their lead, on a Zach Daniels base hit to score Correa.
The very next inning, CJ Stubbs drew a one out walk for the Tourists. Chad Stevens then smoked a double to dead center field, and Stubbs raced home from first to make it a 3-0 edge.
Sandle tripled to lead off the home third, then quickly scored on a JC Correa single. Luis Santana walked to push Correa to third, then Zach Daniels drove in Correa on a sharp single into right field.
Asheville was able to create some more breathing room in the bottom of the fifth inning. JC Correa doubled on the first pitch of the frame, then Luis Santana got hit by a 1-0 pitch, and Zach Daniels walked to load the bases with no outs.
Luis Guerrero also walked to force home Correa, then a wild pitch let all runners move up a bae, with Santana scoring to put Asheville ahead 7-0. Later, a pair of RBI groundouts pushed the Tourists advantage to 9-0 after five innings.
But in the top of the sixth, the Dash offense sprung to life. Duke Ellis started the inning with a two-strike single, then Colson Montgomery singled as well to push his on-base streak to 49 games in a row. Tyler Osik then walked to load the bases, and Bryan Ramos laced a two-run single to right field, with Osik moving to third base. After a pitching change, Luis Mieses doubled to plate Osik, with Ramos replacing him at third. Adam Hackenberg then drove Ramos in with a productive groundout to the second baseman Guerrero. Later in the frame, Alsander Womack pushed Mieses across with an opposite-field single, the Dash had pulled to within 9-5.
Asheville responded in the home half of the sixth. Quincy Hamilton singled to open the inning, then he scored on JC Correa's fourth hit of the night, a double into right field.
The Dash added one more run in the top of the ninth, on a run-scoring double play. But the comeback bid fell a bit short, and Asheville won 10-6.
Diosmerky Taveras was the winning pitcher for Asheville, and Christian Mena suffered the loss for Winston-Salem.
