Brooklyn Cyclones News Release
Brooklyn, NY - It was a Sunday Funday for the Brooklyn Cyclones as they defeated the Greensboro Grasshoppers by the score of 5-1 on Sunday afternoon. OF Stanley Consuegra went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and a tape-measure home run to pace the offense while RHP Junior Santos (4-9) tossed 6.0 frames, scattering three hits and walk while allowing one run and striking out five.
After both teams traded zeroes through the first three frames, Brooklyn opened the scoring in the bottom of the fourth. The Cyclones loaded the bases without a hit, as JT Schwartz and Alex Ramirez worked a pair of walks around a Nic Gaddis hit-by- pitch to load the bases with nobody out. Jaylen Palmer took advantage of the scoring chance with a line drive single into left field to plate a pair and give the 'Clones a 2-0 lead.
Greensboro was finally able to get something going against Santos in the top of the fifth when Luke Brown had a two-out RBI double to cut the Brooklyn lead in half. But the Brooklyn righthander was able to get Yoyner Fajardo to ground out with the tying run on second to end the frame.
Brooklyn answered in a big way in the bottom of the frame when Stanley Consuegra belted a solo shot - his second since joining Brooklyn and his 10th overall - that went an estimated 502 feet over the left field wall to extend Brooklyn's lead to 3-1.
The Cyclones tacked on some insurance runs in the seventh when Alex Ramirez had a two-out RBI single to plate Consuegra and later in the frame Matt O'Neill worked a bases-loaded walk to make it 5-1.
That's how the game would end, as LHP Nick Zwack made a rare relief outing tossing 3.0 shutout frames to close out the game and get the save.
The Cyclones will head into the MLB All-Star Break - which is also a break across MiLB - having won four of six and find themselves at 11-10 in the second half and just 2.5 games behind first-place Hudson Valley. The team will return to action on Friday when they open a three-game series against the Jersey Shore Blue Claws at ShoreTown Ballpark.
