Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

ABERDEEN, MD - Jared Carr led a 14-hit outburst from the BlueClaws, going 4-4 with his second home run of the season, and Ben Brown fanned 13 as the BlueClaws topped Aberdeen 9-0 on Sunday to complete a series win over the IronBirds.

Carr's four hits, the most in a game by a BlueClaw this season, included one of two BlueClaws long balls, as Carlos De La Cruz hit his fifth home run of the year as part of a 3-5, four RBI game. Luis Garcia had three hits including two doubles.

Meanwhile, Ben Brown continued his stellar season. The right-hander from Long Island struck out 13 of the 22 batters he faced. He gave up just two hits over seven innings without allowing a walk. Brown improved to 3-5 on the year and has struck out double-digits four times this season. 13 was a new season high after he had twice fanned 11. This was the second time in three games he threw seven innings.

Jersey Shore (31-55) took four of six from Aberdeen (54-33) in the series.

Carr opened the scoring with a solo home run in the second inning. De La Cruz singled home a run in the third and Rixon Wingrove did the same in the fourth.

De La Cruz started a three-run fifth inning with an RBI single and Carr then singled him home to give the BlueClaws a 5-0 lead. Jersey Shore tacked on four more runs in the sixth including two on De La Cruz's home run and another on an RBI single by Ethan Wilson.

After Brown came out, JP Woodward and Andrew Baker each fanned two over 1-2-3 innings. Jersey Shore pitchers combined to fan 17 IronBirds hitters without allowing a walk. It was the second most strikeouts by the BlueClaws in a game this year.

Carlos Tavera (3-3) took the loss for Aberdeen, allowing one run in 1.2 innings.

The BlueClaws are off through Thursday and return on Friday night, starting a three-game series with Brooklyn at ShoreTown Ballpark.
