ASHEVILLE - The Yacumamas de Asheville claimed their fourth straight win and took five-of-six from the Winston-Salem Salsa with a 6-2 Sunday afternoon victory at McCormick Field. Asheville rallied for three runs in the sixth and added two more in the seventh to break away from Winston-Salem and earn the win.
Heitor Tokar worked five solid innings on the mound. Tokar surrendered a first inning solo Home Run but allowed no further damage. The right-hander struck out five with only three total hits allowed.
The Yacumamas tied the game 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth. Zach Daniels led off the frame with a double to right and later scored on Deury Carrasco's Sacrifice Fly. The Salsa used a Sacrifice Fly of their own to recapture the lead at 2-1 in the top of the sixth.
Asheville responded with a clutch two-out rally in the bottom of the sixth. After Luis Guerrero doubled and stole third, Chad Stevens ripped a run-scoring single up the middle that tied the game 2-2. Carrasco then plated Stevens with a single into right and A.J. Lee followed with an RBI triple.
In the seventh, JC Correa launched a two-run Home Run over the left field wall for his sixth longball of the season. Before the eighth inning could begin, the rain started to fall and forced a rain delay. The game was then called and recorded as an official contest.
Kyle Gruller and Cesar Gomez combined to pitch the final two innings out of Asheville bullpen with Gomez notching his second win of the series.
