
Winston-Salem Beats Greenville, 14-5

Greenville, S.C. - Winston-Salem scored six runs over the first two innings and five in the ninth to hand Greenville a 14-5 loss in game one Tuesday night at Fluor Field.
The Drive stroked six hits on the night, double, triple and home run. Christian Koss led the offense with a double, triple and three RBI. He also scored a run. Tyreque Reed connected on his tenth homer of the year, a solo shot to right. Cam Cannon also registered an RBI single.
Brian Van Belle started for the Drive and was charged with the loss. The right-hander surrendered seven runs, four earned, on 10 hits, one homer and one walk over 4.1 innings. He fanned seven, a career high.
Declan Cronin earned the win for the Dash after pitching 2.0 perfect innings in relief with two punchouts.
Winston-Salem dashed out to a 3-0 lead in the first on a Luis Curbelo three-run homer, all the runs were unearned.
The Dash added three more runs in the second inning on an Ian Dawkins sac fly, Yoelki Cespedes RBI double and Yolbert Sanchez RBI single.
Greenville chipped away at the deficit with two runs in the third inning. Dom A'Allessandro led off with a walk. Two batters later, Koss lined an RBI double off the wall in left field. Cannon followed that with a RBI line-drive single to right, bringing the score to 6-2 in favor of the away team.
However, Winston-Salem got a run back in the fifth inning on a Johan Cruz RBI double to give the Dash a 7-2 advantage.
The seventh inning saw two more runs for the Dash on a two-run homer by Travis Moniot.
The Drive added two runs in the eighth inning. Ricardo Cubillan stroked a one-out single to shortstop. Cole Brannen then doubled to put runners at second and third. That brought up Koss who skied a deep drive to right that banged off the wall for a two-run triple. The Dash led, 9-4.
But the runs kept coming for Winston-Salem in the ninth inning on Cespedes RBI double, Sanchez two-run single and a two-run error to make the score 14-4.
Reed blasted his tenth homer of the year in the ninth inning.
Game two is scheduled for 7:05 pm Wednesday night at Fluor Field. The Drive are set to throw Chase Shugart while the Dash are slated to throw Davis Martin.
