
'Dads Take Game 1 over Asheville 6-3

Hickory, NC - The Crawdads have won three of their last four games, defeating the Asheville Tourists 6-3 in Tuesday night's series opener.
The 'Dads got a rally together in the second inning to take a 1-0 lead. Garcia singled to lead off the inning but was stranded on first as the next two batters were retired. Frainyer Chavez singled to move Garcia up to second. Jose Acosta hit the inning's third single of the inning to drive in Garcia.
They continued to pad onto the lead in the third, getting two more runs across. Kellen Strahm led off the inning with a double to center and was able to take third on a passed ball. Blaine Crim singled up the middle and brought Strahm in to score. Trey Hair and Pedro Gonzalez both drew walks to load the bases. Miguel Aparicio was hit by a pitch to force in the second run of the inning.
The Crawdads added on two more in the fourth to make the score 5-0. Jose Acosta began the bottom of the inning with a base hit. Strahm moved him up with a ground out and Acosta took third on a wild pitch. After Jonathan Ornelas drew a walk, another wild pitch scored Acosta from third. Hair lined a doubled to right that brought in Ornelas.
Crawdads starting pitcher Justin Slaten pitched five scoreless innings, allowing just two hits. Asheville cut into the lead with three runs in the sixth off of reliever Sean Chandler to make the 'Dads lead two.
The 'Dads got a run back in the eighth inning. Aparicio doubled and was sacrficed over on a bunt by Acosta. Strahm hit a grounder to third to allow Aparicio to score.
Slaten picked up his first career victory, moving to 1-4 on the season. Grant Anderson meanwhile recorded a six out save, his third of the year.
Tomorrow night the teams will square off again at 7pm. It will be Founding Fathers Night and fans dressed in powdered wigs will get a $6 ticket. It is also Kids Win Wednesday presented by Arby's and all kids 12 and under will get a free ticket to the game, meal voucher, and a voucher for the speed pitch, carousel, and bounce house. It is also Wine Wednesday so come out for discounted wine and a free sampling from Catawba Farms and Carolina Vines.
