ABERDEEN, MD - A hot and early start lifted the Aberdeen IronBirds past the Brooklyn Cyclones, the High-A affiliate of the New York Mets, 7-3 Tuesday night in the series opener at Leidos Field at Ripken Stadium.

BIG MOMENTS

Aberdeen scored five runs across the first three innings against Alec Kisena. Shayne Fontana and Jordan Westburg led the charge. Fontana finished 3-5 with two doubles, two runs scored and an RBI. Westburg also collected three hits during the early melee, driving in two to make it 5-0 after three.

IronBirds starter Garrett Stallings earned the victory, twirling six innings of three run ball with six strikeouts and a walk. He held the Cyclones to four hits.

Luke Ritter demolished his team-leading ninth homer of the season, scoring Ronny Mauricio and Francisco Alvarez in his three-run shot in the fourth inning, cutting it to 5-3.

NEWS AND NOTES

The Cyclones are 0-5 against Aberdeen this season, having trailed in all but three innings during the season series.

Brett Baty tallied three hits for his 13th multi-hit game of the season to lead the Cyclones.

Evy Ruibal made his Mets minor league debut in the seventh inning, allowing two earned runs. Ruibal hit 96 mph consistently with his fastball.

Brooklyn and Aberdeen play a doubleheader Wednesday beginning at 4:35 p.m., setting up for seven games in six days.
