Winnipeg Gets Past Calgary

Winnipeg, MB- The Calgary Hitmen finished off the two-game set with the ICE in Winnipeg tonight.

Scoring was opened by the two teams trading power play goals. First to strike was Carson Latimer for Winnipeg. Calgary followed it up with a power play goal of their own from Riley Fiddler-Schultz to tie the game. Oliver Tulk netted Calgary's second goal on the breakaway off a long feed from Trey Patterson. It would be followed up only two minutes later by Tomis Marinkovic giving Calgary a two-goal lead heading into the second period.

Winnipeg would come within one early in the second courtesy of Matthew Savoie but Calgary was able to restore the two-goal lead with Ethan Moore's fourth of the season. Connor McClennon found the back of the net for Winnipeg again with less than three minutes to go but it would be Oliver Tulk to answer back for his second of the game just over a minute later to make it 5-3 for Calgary.

Calgary started the third on the kill, shifting the momentum towards Winnipeg, who would score four consecutive goals in the first half of the period. Markers came Connor Mclennon scoring two, and was rounded out by Zack Ostapchuk and Owen Pederson. A late power play goal from Sean Tschigerl put Calgary within one but it would not be enough as Winnipeg held out to win it 7-6. Shots finished 41-33 in favour of Winnipeg.

Calgary now has a day off before completing this three-game East Division trip in Brandon on Saturday, Feb. 11 against the Wheat Kings. Calgary then heads to Lethbridge (Feb. 15) and Edmonton (Feb. 18) before their next home game on Sunday, Feb. 19 against the Kamloops Blazers at Seven Chiefs Sportsplex. Game time is 2:00 p.m.
