Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

GREENVILLE, SC - Nevin Griffith had a night to forget as the Kannapolis Intimidators saw their 12 game winning streak come to an end on Friday night at Fluor Field, falling 7-5 to the Drive.

Griffith lasted just 2 2/3 innings in his start, the shortest outing for a Kannapolis starter this season. The 20-year-old right-hander struggled with his control giving up five runs, four earned, while walking four and hitting two.

Griffith (3-5) also gave up a pair of home runs to Ryan Lavarnway, a solo shot in the first and a three-run job in the third, to give the Drive an early lead they would not relinquish.

The short outing left Kannapolis' bullpen a long night, and things got even stressful when Leroy Hunt was forced out the game after being struck in the hand with a groundball after facing just three batters.

Jared Mitchell also was sent to an early exit, pulling up while running out a groundball in the fourth inning.

Kannapolis did fight back, cutting a four run deficit to one in the seventh. Daniel Wagner's first home run with the Intimidators closed the gap to 6-5, but the Drive responded with a run in the bottom half of the frame against Enrique Lechuga.

Dan Remenowsky pitched a 1-2-3 frame in the bottom of the eighth, striking out the side. The All-Star closer has now fanned 100 batters this year in 50 appearances.

Kannapolis' loss, coupled with West Virginia's 6-2 win in Bowling Green, cut the Intimidators lead in the Northern Division to five games with 10 remaining in the regular season.
