Long Island Ducks News Release
(Bridgewater, N.J., Aug. 17, 2015) - The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Somerset Patriots 5-4 on Monday night in the opener of a four-game series at TD Bank Ballpark.
The Ducks opened the scoring in the third on Dan Lyons' run-scoring groundout and a RBI single by Sean Burroughs off of Patriots starter Zach Clark. The Patriots responded with two runs in the third and two in the fourth off of Ducks starter Darin Downs to take a 4-2 lead. David Vidal's two-run home run to left, a RBI double by James Skelton and a RBI single by Aharon Eggleston did the damage.
However, Long Island answered back with two in the fifth to tie the game at four. Another RBI single by Burroughs and a run-scoring fielder's choice off the bat of Puckett highlighted the scoring. It stayed that way until the bottom of the ninth when Ricky Claudio drew a bases loaded walk on a 3-2 pitch with two outs to win the game for Somerset.
Neither starter factored into the decision. Downs pitched seven innings, giving up four runs on six hits and six walks while striking out two. Clark lasted four and two-thirds innings, yielding four runs on eight hits and one walk with two strikeouts. Jon Hunton (2-3) picked up the win with a scoreless ninth inning, and Billy Buckner (7-3) suffered the loss, allowing an unearned run on a hit and three walks while striking out three in one and two-thirds innings of relief.
Burroughs led the Flock with three hits and two RBI, while Mike Blanke added two hits.
Long Island and Somerset continue their four-game set on Tuesday night. Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m. from T.D. Bank Ballpark. Right-hander Bobby Blevins takes the mound for the Ducks against Patriots righty R.J. Seidel. Fans can follow all of the action live on the Ducks' official YouTube channel. Streaming audio will be available online.
The Ducks will return home on Friday, August 21 to begin a three-game homestand with the Camden Riversharks. First pitch for the opener is scheduled for 6:35, with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full season ticket holders). It will be a Fowl Pole Friday at the Duck Pond! If a select Ducks player hits a home run off of either foul pole during the game, one lucky Ducks fan will win $50,000. The Ducks will be running their Friday night Pizza Hut K-Man and Air Trampoline Sports Friday promotions as well.
