Skeeters Host Sendoff Celebration for First Colony Little League Challenger Team to 2015 Ll World Se

SUGAR LAND, August 17, 2015 - The Sugar Land Skeeters will host a big sendoff celebration on Sunday, Aug. 23, for First Colony Little League's Challenger Division for special needs players, who are going to Williamsport, Penn., to play in the 2015 Little League World Series Challenger Division exhibition game on Aug. 29.

Sugar Land Mayor James Thompson will introduce the team during the middle of the fourth inning in the Skeeters vs. Bridgeport Bluefish game that begins at 5:05 p.m. Scheduled to join Mayor Thompson in the celebration is U.S. Rep. Pete Olson (R-TX).

The Skeeters and their players are hosting a private celebration for the team in the Insperity Club of Constellation Field from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. Key Dream League World Series sponsors and VIPs will throw first pitches and players will be on the field with the Skeeters players as "baseball buddies" to start the game.

The First Colony league, known as the Dream League, is one of two Challenger Division leagues in the nation - out of 900 Challenger programs -- invited to send a team to play in this annual exhibition game. The group of more than 75 team and family members, coaches and supporters depart early Thursday, Aug. 27.

"It is a great honor for Sugar Land to be so well represented by these young athletes," said Mayor Thompson.

The Dream League, founded in 2007, is part of the Challenger Division of Little League International providing the opportunity for physically and/or intellectually challenged players to experience the fun of Little League baseball. First Colony LL will play State College, Penn., Little League in the exhibition game.

In addition to the 15 players and families, FCLL will also take 15 "Angels in the Outfield," who are middle, high school and college age buddies for the special needs players, assisting them throughout the game in the areas of batting, base running and defense and being their companion as needed.

Dream League is committed to covering all costs of the trip so the families will not have a financial burden in order to participate. The league received major underwriting for the trip from the Deacons of Deadwood, the Clines family, Memorial Hermann Health System, Texas Children's Hospital, Minute Maid, H-E-B and Precision Task Group.

KUHT-TV, TV8 PBS, will carry a delayed broadcast of the Aug. 29 game on Sept. 12 at 4:00 p.m. and again on Sept. 13 on Ch. 8.2 at 9:00 p.m.

Dream League completed its ninth season this year with 100 players on eight teams in two divisions, Dream League and the new Senior Dream League for older players.
