Rochester Red Wings News Release

Oswaldo Arcia had four of the team's 17 hits - including a long home run in the third inning - to lead the Rochester Red Wings to an 8-4 win over the Pawtucket Red Sox Wednesday afternoon at Frontier Field. It was the fifth straight win for the Wings, the longest winning streak of the season.

After two games in Lehigh Valley, the Wings return home Saturday for a July 4th celebration at the ballpark. The Wings will wear patriotic jerseys which will be auctioned to help veterans and military groups, and a special Independence Day-themed fireworks show after the game. Complete promotion details below...

Wings left-hander Pat Dean was making his third start against Pawtucket, with eight scoreless innings pitched but a pair of no decisions to show for it. The PawSox used a broken-bat single and a walk to get their first two batters on base Wednesday, but Dean countered with a groundball out and two strikeouts to end the scoring threat.

Dean's teammates provided early run support. Argenis Diaz doubled off PawSox starter Steven Wright (2-3) with one out, and scored on an RBI single by Reynaldo Rodriguez. A wild pitch moved Rodriguez to second base, and Rodriguez hustled all the way around to score on a bloop hit by Arcia to put the Wings up 2-0.

The PawSox finally scored against Dean in the third inning, when Jeff Bianchi led off with a triple and scored on a grounder by Quintin Berry. Pawtucket combined two more singles and a costly passed ball to take the lead, on a run-spring hit from Travis Shaw that made it 3-2 PawSox.

In the bottom of the third inning, the Wings battled back when Arcia smacked a solo home run to tie the score 3-3.

The Wings' offense erupted in the bottom of the fifth inning that started with a lead off single by Aaron Hicks. After two straight swinging strikeouts and a passed ball that allowed Hicks to move to second, Rodriguez singled and drove in his second run of the game that put the Wings in a 4-3 lead. Arcia continued his great afternoon with a follow-up single and collected his third RBI of the day that gave the Wings' another run, 5-3. Wilkin Ramirez joined the action with an RBI double that drove in Arcia and pushed the lead to 6-3.

After a lead off single by Hicks in the sixth and another single by Diaz, Jose Martinez drove in his 27th run of the season to put the Wings up 7-3. A ground-rule double from Rodriguez made it 8-3 Wings.

Dean (6-7) worked 5 1/3 innings and allowed five hits, three runs (two earned) and three walks. He struck out three and threw 100 pitches, 60 for strikes.Cole Johnson took over for Dean in the sixth inning and contributed two scoreless relief innings.

Ryan O'Rourke relieved Johnson in the eighth inning with one out and a runner on first. O'Rourke walked the first batter he faced, then struck out the next two PawSox.

Mark Hamburger pitched the ninth for the Red Wings, and the first two batters he faced reached on hits. A double play allowed a run to score, making the final score 8-4.

The Red Wings out-hit the PawSox 17-8 and completed a sweep of the series; it's the first time the Wings have swept Pawtucket here since August 2006. Rodriguez had three hits and and three RBI, and Hicks had three hits and two runs scored.
