Pawtucket Red Sox News Release
(Rochester, NY) - Rochester collected 16 base hits and after trailing Pawtucket 3-2 scored six unanswered runs as the Red Wings completed a four-game series sweep of the PawSox with a 8-4 victory on Wednesday afternoon at Frontier Field.
Pawtucket starter Steven Wright (2-3) allowed 10 hits and six runs in five innings of work. With the score tied at 3 in the fifth, Wright permitted three two-out runs, all unearned, that put Rochester ahead to stay. The PawSox scored three times in the top of the third to snap a string of 25 consecutive innings without plating a run in the series.
In the decisive fifth inning, the Red Wings had Aaron Hicks on first base with two outs before a passed ball moved Hicks to second. Reynaldo Rodriguez then hit a soft ground ball to first base that kicked off the glove of Allen Craig and bounded into foul ground for an error. Hicks scored all the way from second to put Rochester in front 4-3.
Rodriguez then stole second base and Oswaldo Arcia singled him home with a looping base hit to left field. Arcia would advance to second on a wild pitch, and Wilkin Ramirez capped the rally with a deep RBI double to center that made the score 6-3.
The Red Wings tacked on a pair of runs against reliever Jess Todd in the sixth on consecutive RBI hits from Jose Martinez and Rodriguez. Fifteen of Rochester's seventeen hits came in the first six innings of the contest.
After the Red Wings scored a pair of two outs runs in the first against Wright on back-to-back two-out RBI singles by Rodriguez and Arcia, the PawSox rallied for three third-inning runs. Jeff Bianchi led off with a triple and Quintin Berry then drove him home with an RBI groundout.
Rusney Castillo then singled, and with two outs Allen Craig's base hit put two runners on base. Following a passed ball that moved each man into scoring position, Travis Shaw looped a two-run single to center that put Pawtucket ahead for the first time in the series, 3-2.
Arcia smashed a two-out solo home run (2) against Wright in the bottom of the third to tie the game at 3. Arcia went 4-for-5 with three RBIs to pace the Red Wings offense, while Hicks had three knocks.
Castillo (2-for-4, walk) and Bianchi (2-for-3, walk) each collected a pair of the PawSox' eight base hits.
Pawtucket next heads back to McCoy Stadium for a brief two-game series against IL North Division rival Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The set begins Thursday night with first pitch is scheduled for 6:15pm.
Zeke Spruill (4-3, 4.13) start for Pawtucket against Scranton righty Luis Severino (3-0, 1.73).
