Syracuse Mets News Release

Louisville, KY (July 1, 2015) - The Syracuse Chiefs slugged their way to a series-clinching 10-1 victory over the Louisville Bats Wednesday night at Louisville Slugger Field. Kevin Keyes hit two home runs and drove in five runs and Trea Turner hit his first Triple-A home run in the victory.

Syracuse (28-52) got its first of three home runs in the second inning. Keyes hit a solo home run to lead off the inning to give Syracuse an early 1-0 lead. It was Keyes' first Triple-A home run. An inning later, Turner picked up his first Triple-A home run, a two-run shot, to give the Chiefs a 3-0 advantage. It was also Turner's first Triple-A hit in his fifth start.

Louisville (39-41) ended the streak of two shutouts to start the series in the fourth. Jermaine Curtis homered off Joe Ross to left field to cut the lead to 3-1. That would be the only run Ross allowed in five solid innings.

Keyes was not done, however. The Chiefs left fielder hit his second home run of the game, a two-run shot, to the back row of the seats beyond the left-field wall to extend the lead to 5-1.

Syracuse broke the game open in the eighth. Nick Christiani walked Scott McGregor and Darin Mastroianni to start the inning. After a force out and strikeout, the Chiefs had runners on first and second with two outs. Keyes then picked up his fourth RBI on a single up the middle scoring Mastroianni to give Syracuse a 6-1 lead. Christiani then walked Mario Lisson and Caleb Ramsey to force in a seventh Chiefs run. The Bats brought Joe Paterson on in relief of Christiani. Paterson surrendered a single to Ricky Hague to score an eighth run. Then with Steve Lerud batting, Patterson threw a wild pitch, scoring Lisson to extend the lead to 9-1.

Keyes finished off his stellar night in the ninth. A ninth-inning single scored Turner, who had reached on a force out, for Keyes' fifth RBI and a 10-1 Chiefs lead.

Syracuse hits the road and opens a two-game series with the Buffalo Bisons Thursday night. Paolo Espino is scheduled to start for the Chiefs opposite Jeff Francis for the Bisons. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
