Bats Drop Series Finale to 10-1 to Syracuse

LOUISVILLE, Ky.- The Louisville Bats (39-41) dropped the series finale to Syracuse (28-52) by a final score of 10-1 on Wednesday night at Louisville Slugger Field.

The Chiefs got on the board in the second inning after Kevin Keyes hit a solo home run to left field grabbing the lead, 1-0. Syracuse added two more runs in the third after Trea Turner hit a two-run homer stretching the lead to 3-0.

A solo home run from third baseman Jermaine Curtis put the Bats on the board in the fourth, cutting the Chiefs lead to 3-1.

A second home run of the night for Keyes added two runs in the fifth for Syracuse, making it 5-1.

An RBI single by Keyes and a walk issued by Bats pitcher Nick Christiani, with the bases loaded in the eighth, allowed the Chiefs to bring in two more runs adding to the lead 7-1.

David Holmberg (L, 4-6, 4.78) took the loss as he worked seven innings for Louisville. The left-hander allowed seven hits, five earned runs, one walk, two strikeouts and three home runs.

For Syracuse, righty Joe Ross (W, 1-1, 3.60) pitched five innings, allowed four hits, one earned run, one walk, one strikeout and one home run. Scott McGregor secured his first save of the year for the Chiefs.

Louisville will take on Columbus tomorrow night at Louisville Slugger Field at 7:05 p.m. Righty Matt Buschmann (1-0, 4.15) takes the mound for Louisville. Starting for Columbus will be Jarrett Grube (2-0, 2.70).
