Sloppy Third Inning Leads to 6-2 Loss
July 1, 2015 - International League (IL1)
Buffalo Bisons News Release
Tough field conditions and a rough third inning for the Herd lead to a 6-2 loss against Gwinnett on Wednesday at Coca-Cola Field. With the loss, the Bisons are now 10-37 when their opponents score first in a game.
Gwinnett's scoring started in the third inning, but in an unusual way. A leadoff walk, a bunt and a fielder's choice gave the Braves the bases loaded early. After Jose Peraza flew out to right field, Daniel Castro scored on an error at home plate. Andonis Garcia added a run off of a sacrifice fly to give Gwinnett the early 3-0 lead.
Following a triple to left field from Sean Kazmar, Castro hit an RBI single to right field to add another run for the Braves, giving them a 4-0 lead in the fourth inning.
Gwinnett added two more runs with an RBI single from Daniel Castro in the fifth and a solo homerun from Mycal Jones in the seventh to secure the 6-2 victory.
Bisons' starter Daniel Norris had a rough day on the hill for the Herd. Norris experienced the slippery environment in the third inning when he went to field a bunt and slipped. Sean Ochinko vouched for the conditions post game saying, "playing in this is tough, but both teams are competing in the same conditions" Norris earned four out of the six runs the Braves scored in the seven innings he pitched. The lefty moves to 1-8 on the season for Buffalo.
Ochinko crushed a two run homer over the left field wall, producing the only offense for the Herd. "I was just looking for a first pitch fast ball. We had a runner in scoring position and I'm glad we were able to drive in a couple runs."
The Bisons continue their homestand on Thursday and Friday with a two-game series against the Syracuse Chiefs. First pitch on Thursday is at 7:05.
