Charlotte Knights News Release

(NORFOLK, VA) - The Charlotte Knights fell to the division-rival Norfolk Tides 2-0 in the series finale on Wednesday night, with both runs coming on a Sean Halton second-inning home run. The Knights completed their 10-game road trip with a 4-6 record, with each loss coming by two runs or fewer.

Tides starter Michael Bowden delivered an impressive performance on Wednesday night, tossing seven scoreless innings of three-hit ball. The Illinois native struck out five Knights while out-dueling Kyle Drabek on way to his sixth win of the season.

Drabek (3-5, 2.86) spun six strong innings for Charlotte, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out two. The two-run homer in the bottom of the second inning by Halton would be the only runs allowed by the Texas native. Jarrett Casey relieved Drabek in the seventh inning and allowed one hit over two scoreless frames.

After Pedro Beato tossed a scoreless eighth inning in relief of Bowden, Oliver Drake took over in the ninth to earn his 12th save of the season. The Knights threatened in the final frame by drawing a pair of walks, but Drake was able to strike out the side to seal the 2-0 victory.

The Knights return to Uptown Charlotte on Thursday night to play three games in two days against the Gwinnett Braves at BB&T Ballpark. International League strikeout-leader Erik Johnson is set to take the mound in the "Thirsty" Thursday night series opener, with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. The Knights and G-Braves will then play a day-night double-header on Friday, July 3rd - followed by an Independence Day Fireworks celebration.
