Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release
SAN ANGELO - After holding leads in the bottom of the eighth and tenth innings, the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings could not hold on, losing the lead each time and falling 10-9 in extra innings to the San Angelo Colts on Tuesday night at Harlingen Field.
With the WhiteWings leading 10-9 in the bottom of the tenth inning, Landon Camp led off the bottom of the tenth inning with a solo homerun to tie the score at 10. One batter later, Mark Ramos hit a double to get into scoring position. That allowed Ronnie Gaines to hit Ramos home on the game-winning single into left field as the Colts walked off 10-9 winners.
Edgar Martinez (2-3, 2.48 ERA) gets the loss and the blown save, allowing the tying and game-winning run to cross the plate. Josh Giles (2-3, 4.91 ERA) gets the win for the Colts.
The WhiteWings also held an 8-7 lead heading into the bottom of the eighth inning, but allowed the tying run to score on a wild pitch.
Trailing 5-0 after the second inning, the WhiteWings responded with eight runs in the next three innings to take an 8-6 lead.
Wilmer Pino started the comeback with an RBI double to give the WhiteWings their first run. Next batter, David Peralta hit a sac fly to cut the deficit to three, as the 'Wings trailed 5-2.
The WhiteWings tied it the very next inning, getting an RBI single from Brandon Decker and then a two-run homerun from Alexis Oliveras to tie the score at 5.
The Colts scored a run in their next at-bat to take a 6-5 lead, but the WhiteWings quickly erased that deficit, putting three runs on the scoreboard in the top of the sixth inning to take their first lead of the game, up 8-6.
Wilson Batista tied the score at 6 with an RBI single, but Edgar Trejo provided the lead after hitting his 13th homerun - a two-run shot over the left-centerfield wall - to give the WhiteWings an 8-6 lead.
Yet the WhiteWings couldn't hold on, losing the lead in the bottom of the eighth and then in the bottom of the tenth.
The WhiteWings conclude their regular season with a four-game series against the McAllen Thunder on Thirsty Thursday. Game time is scheduled for 7:05 PM at Harlingen Field.
