
Roadrunners Win in Extras

EDINBURG, Texas---The Edinburg Roadrunners got an RBI single by Robert Matlock in the top of the 11th inning sending them to a 3-2 win over the McAllen Thunder Tuesday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
The Roadrunners (33-52) got their first run in the top of the third. Clint Stroud smashed a double to left center field to lead off the inning. After moving to third on a fly ball to right, Stroud came into score on an RBI single by Antonio De Jesus making it 1-0.
The Thunder (34-51) responded in the next half inning. Adam Matos reached on a one-out single and then moved to second on a stolen base. After a single by Antoin Gray, Matos came into score on a fielding error that tied the game one.
The score remained the same until the top of the eighth when Stantrel Smith hit a sacrifice fly that allowed Blake Sanders to score giving Edinburg the 2-1 lead.
McAllen answered in the bottom of the eighth against Roadrunners reliever Jorge Quintero. Matos started the inning with a single and then moved to second on a bunt single by Eric Eiland. One out later, Zach Mandelblatt hit a sacrifice fly to left field that allowed Matos to score tying the game at two.
In the top of the 11th, R.J. Harris was walked with two outs. He then moved to third on a single to right by Osiel Flores. Robert Matlock then followed with an RBI single to center allowing Harris to score giving Edinburg the 3-2 lead.
After Quintero allowed two runners into scoring position, Mike Schurz retired Mike Goss for the final out of the game giving the Roadrunners the 3-2 victory.
Quintero (6-8) picked up the win after pitching three and two-third innings and allowing one run on three hits and striking out two. Schurz picked up his second save of the season.
The Roadrunners have the day off on Wednesday before they host the San Angelo Colts for a four-game series starting Thursday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. The Thunder have tomorrow off before traveling to Harlingen to close out the season against the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings.
