
Thunder Walk-Off Against Roadrunners, Again

EDINBURG, Texas---Eric Eiland delivered the walk-off two-run single in the bottom of the 10th giving the McAllen Thunder the 8-7 victory over the Edinburg Roadrunners Monday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
The Thunder (34-50) got the scoring started in the bottom of the second when with runners at second and third Garret Breda hit an RBI single to left field scoring Luke Hetherington from third. Cody McMorris then hit an RBI fielder's choice that scored Vic Ferrante for a 2-0 lead.
In the bottom of the third, Ferrante extended the McAllen lead with a two-run single that allowed Antoin Gray and Yaibel Tamayo to score making 4-0.
R.J. Harris got the Roadrunners on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth with an RBI single that scored Antonio De Jesus from third cutting the Thunder lead 4-1.
Edinburg (33-51) added another run in the top of the seventh against Frank James. Jonathan Fernandez led off the inning with a single. After moving to third on a De Jesus single, Fernandez came into score on an RBI fielder's choice by Stantrel Smith that made it 4-2 McAllen.
In the top of the eighth, Osiel Flores reached after getting hit by a pitch and then moved to second on a Robert Matlock single. D.J. Dixon then followed with an RBI single to left center scoring Flores from second. An errant pickoff throw then allowed Matlock to score from third tying the game at four.
With the game tied in the top of the ninth, De Jesus reached on an infield single and then Stantrel Smith followed with another single. Both runners moved up on a deep fly and then De Jesus came into score on an RBI infield single by Flores giving Edinburg the 5-4 lead.
Mike Schurz then allowed a bases loaded single to Yaibel Tamayo that allowed Adam Matos to score tying the game at five in the bottom of the ninth.
Derek Marshall hit a one-out double in the top of the 10th off of Justin Jordan. Fernandez then hit an RBI single to left field that allowed Marshall to score. With two outs, De Jesus hit an RBI single to right that drove in Fernandez giving Edinburg the 7-5 lead.
McAllen answered back in the bottom of the 10th. Hetherington and Ferrante reached to start the inning and then Matos hit an RBI fielder's choice scoring Hetherington from third. With runners at second and third and two outs, Eric Eiland hit the walk-off two-run single giving the Thunder the 8-7 victory.
Justin Jordan (4-7) picked up the win for McAllen while Schurz (1-2) got the loss for Edinburg.
The Thunder and Roadrunners will wrap up their four-game series Tuesday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Julio Castro (3-1) is expected to face Alien Mora (1-5) with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
