A strong outing from righty Sean Reid-Foley propelled the Wings to a 4-3 victory against the Plates from Coca-Cola Field Friday night.
Reid-Foley put together his second consecutive quality start after tossing a three-hit, one-run outing in seven innings against Columbus last week.
Reid-Foley had just about all of his pitches working for him in his 7.1-inning start, especially his fastball. He dialed up a mid 90s heater to rack up seven strikeouts. Reid-Foley yielded just one run on four hits and retired the Plates in order in the second, fourth and sixth innings. The lone run against Reid-Foley's line occurred when he allowed an RBI-double to LaMonte Wade in the third.
"I just tried to focus on hitting Reese [McGuire] no matter where he was set up," Reid-Foley said after the game. "He calls a great game back there and I trust him with everything."
"It's always nice going deep into games, helping out the bullpen, and [I was] fortunate enough to get the team a win," he said. "My number one thing today because yesterday we used a lot of the bullpen, was to try to help them out and make sure only one or two have to pitch, and I accomplished that."
With the winning decision, Reid-Foley notched his second straight victory on the mound and improved to 2-1 on the season.
The Wings took advantage of a Lourdes Gurriel Jr. walk and a Jason Leblebijian hit by pitch to score two runs in the second. Darnell Sweeney hit a sharp two-RBI double on the ground just inside the first base line to give the Buffalo the early edge.
Sweeney went on the attack again in the fourth. This time, he crushed his sixth home run of the season--a solo shot to the deep part of right-center field--to move the Wings lead back up to two runs.
In the seventh, Buffalo tacked on another run. Roemon Fields chopped a ball between home plate and the pitcher's mound for an infield single. An errant throw to first from Rochester catcher Cameron Rupp allowed Fields to use his speed and advance to third on the play.
In his second game back from the disabled list, Richard Urena pulled a ball through the first and second base hole with the infield in to score Fields. Urena's hit made all the difference as the Plates brought home two runs in the top of the ninth on a pair of sacrifice flies.
The Wings tallied eight hits collectively. Fields continued to find his way on base out of the leadoff spot. He was 2-3 with a walk and two singles Friday night.
