Wings' Bats Go Cold, Fall to Mets 6-1
April 6, 2023 - International League (IL)
Rochester Red Wings News Release
1B Matt Adams homers for the third time in two games, Red Wings collect just two hits as they fall to Syracuse, 6-1.
The game remained scoreless through the first three frames, before Mark Vientos opened the scoring with a two-run shot in the fourth to give Syracuse a 2-0 lead. Matt Adams cut the lead in half in the fifth with a solo shot, his third home run in the past two days. Later in the inning, CF Jeter Downs, making his first career start in the outfield, laced a double that would account for the entire Wings offense.
Rochester native, now Syracuse Met Danny Mendick extended the lead to 5-1 with a bases-clearing double in the sixth. Rochester bats were unable to warm up, going scoreless through the final four frames, falling by a score of 6-1.
RHP Wily Peralta got the start for the Wings, working three scoreless innings on just one hit while striking out four. He was relieved by RHP Tommy Romero (0-1), who allowed five earned over two innings pitched and took the loss. Syracuse starting pitch Tony Dibrell (1-0) earned the win for the Mets.
The two teams meet tomorrow night again for the fourth of a six-game set, as the Wings look to even up the series at two games apiece. RHP* Joan Adon* is set to make his second start of 2023 for Rochester, facing veteran Syracuse southpaw Joey Lucchesi. First pitch is set for 6:35 pm.
