HICKORY, NC - Rixon Wingrove and Kendall Simmons each homered twice and the BlueClaws set a team record with six homers in a 13-1 rout of Hickory on Saturday night at LP Frans Stadium. Marcus Lee Sang and Casey Martin added homers for the BlueClaws, who had twice hit five homers in a game, but had never hit six until tonight.

With the win, the BlueClaws (11-11) have taken three of the first five in the series from Hickory (12-12).

The BlueClaws opened the scoring in the first inning. Marcus Lee Sang singled, stole second, went to third on a flyout, and scored on a balk to give Jersey Shore a 1-0 lead. Hickory tied the game in the bottom of the first on a SAC fly from Cody Freeman. Jersey Shore then re-took the lead in the second when Nick Ward scored on a SAC fly from Troy Schreffler.

The home runs began in the fourth. Wingrove's fourth homer of the season, a two-run shot, put the BlueClaws up 4-1. Then in the fifth, Marcus Lee Sang launched his second home run of the season for a 5-1 lead. Both home runs were opposite field shots by BlueClaws left-handed hitters.

Casey Martin (2nd) and Simmons both homered in the seventh. Then Simmons and Wingrove, who now has five on the season including two, two-home run games, each homered in the ninth to push the lead to 13-1.

Jersey Shore starter Rafael Marcano gave up one run over four innings, walking three and fanning four. He did not factor in the decision. Carlos Betancourt (1-1) earned the win with three scoreless innings in relief, striking out nine.

Wingrove had three hits including his two home runs, driving in five. Lee Sang, Simmons, and Anthony Quirion each had two hits in the win.

The BlueClaws 13 runs were their most since they scored 14 on August 9th last year in a win at Greensboro.

The teams finish their series on Sunday at 3:05 pm and the BlueClaws will open a six-game series at Greensboro on Tuesday night.
