Rome Emperors News Release
ROME,GA - The Rome Braves fell in extra innings on Saturday night by a final score of seven runs to six.
Seeking their fifth consecutive win, Angel Flores sent Ian Mejia to the mound for Saturday's contest against the Bowling Green Hot Rods. Mejia would get into a sticky situation early as Carson Williams would wallop his third homer of the season to left-center field, putting the Hot Rods up early.
However, Rome would rally back in the home half of the game's second frame, as Brandon Parker and Cory Acton's home runs would put the Braves in front four runs to one. Both of the second inning longballs were each hitter's first of the season.
Mejia would settle in nicely. Aside from the surge in the fifth, the former New Mexico State Aggie would turn in a nice line on the night. Mejia would finish with no walks and seven strikeouts over four innings.
Bowling Green's five run top of the fifth would give them a two run advantage thanks to home runs from Blake Robertson and another from Carson Williams. Rome would strike right back in the home half of the fifth inning, as Cory Acton scored on a Drake Baldwin ground out. The seventh inning would see the Braves knot the score up at six runs each, as Nacho Alvarez Jr would double to score Drake Baldwin.
Neither team could plate a run for the next two frames, sending Rome to their second extra innings contest of the season. The Braves and Hot Rods would each post scoreless frames in the tenth inning.
Bowling Green would finally break through in the top half of the eleventh inning, as Carson Williams drives in the go ahead run on a single that scored Blake Robertson.
The seven to six run loss is Rome's thirteenth of the season, and snaps a four game winning streak, as well as snaps a six game winning streak over the defending South Atlantic League Champion Hot Rods.
The Braves and Hot Rods will finish up the series tomorrow with a 1:00pm first pitch.
