Wichita Wingnuts News Release

Wichita, KS- The Wingnuts had plenty of chances but couldn't get the clutch hit, falling 5-4 to the Pensacola Pelicans on Monday at Lawrence Dumont Stadium.

The Wingnuts got a quick run in the first on an RBI single by Greg Porter after Josh Horn singled and stole second and third. Pensacola went ahead 2-1 in the fourth, before Porter hit a two-run bomb to straight away center in the fifth to put Wichita back up 3-2. The Pelicans re-took the lead in the seventh thanks to a pair of Wingnuts errors and Antoin Gray added an insurance run with a solo home run to put Pensacola up 5-3.

The Wingnuts had a golden opportunity in the bottom of the inning, putting two men on with nobody out, but reliever Ron Hill recorded three straight outs to get out of the jam.

In the ninth, the Wingnuts got to closer Hunter Davis, who had been nearly unhittable all season. Nick Blasi led off the inning with a home run. Porter followed with a single and Mohr reached on a fielding error by Davis, setting up second and third with no out. After Kelly Hunt lined out to first, Stephen Pearson was intentionally walked to load the bases. Joe Muich grounded one to third, forcing out Porter at home. With two outs, Michael Thompson grounded out to end the game. The Wingnuts ended up leaving 13 runners on base. Porter finished the night 4-5 with 3 RBI.
