Wingnuts Beat Explorers

Sioux City.....The Wichita Wingnuts defeated the Explorers 7-2 Friday in the first game of a three-game series at Lewis and Clark Park. The loss was the fifth straight for the Explorers who have now lost 13 of their last 14 games.

Wichita took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a RBI single by Greg Porter, the first of four hits in the game for Porter. Wichita scored four runs in the fourth inning on four hits, two of which were doubles. The Wingnuts capped off their scoring with back-to-back home runs in the seventh inning by Porter and Dustan Mohr.

It wasn't until the ninth inning that the Explorers scored. Nick McCoola led off with a walk and Alex Llanos followed with a single. Justin Nelson then singled home McCoola. It was Nelson's second hit of the game. Greg Steven's single scored Llanos with the final Explorers run as the Explorers have lost ten of the 11 games played this season against Wichita.

The second game of the three-game series will be Saturday at 7:05 at Lewis and Clark Park.
