Fort Worth Cats News Release

Marcos Rodriguez had three hits and two runs batted in as the Pelicans topped the Cats 8-3 on Friday night at Pelican Park. The loss snapped the Cats' three-game winning streak.

Pensacola took a first-inning lead against Cats' starter Ryan Riddle. After a leadoff single and two walks, Marcos Rodriguez singled to center, scoring Kevin Reynolds for a 1-0 lead. They made it 2-0 on an RBI fielder's choice by Adam Darby.

The Cats knotted the game at two in the second as Michael Bell hit his 11th home run of the season, a two-run shot to left. Fort Worth took its lead of the game in the third as Chuck Carter reached on a leadoff single before coming home to score on a Ryan Patterson sacrifice fly.

But the Pelicans scored three times in the third inning to re-take the lead. Marcos Rodriguez led off the inning with a double and one out later Adam Darby walked. With runners at first and third Dallas Christison hit a ground ball to third for a run-scoring fielder's choice to tie the game 3-3. Later in the inning, Darby scored from third on a catcher's interference called when Luis Guance struck the glove of catcher Matt Combs for a 4-3 Pensacola lead. The Pelicans added a run that inning on a Kevin Reynolds' sacrifice fly, scoring Christison for a 5-3 advantage.

A Rodriguez RBI single and a Lou Palmisano two-run single gave the Pelicans an 8-3 lead in the sixth inning.

Randy Beam (8-6) notched his third win against Fort Worth this season as he allowed three runs on four hits in six innings pitched. Ryan Riddle (4-6) suffered the loss as he went 2 2/3 innings and permitted four earned runs on four hits with six walks. Combined, the Cats pitching staff walked 10 batters in a game for the third time this year.

Brian Fryer had a third-inning infield single to extend his hitting streak to 20 games. It is his second hitting streak this year of 20 or more.

The series continues on Saturday night at 6:05 p.m. Nat Harris, looking for his third win in a Fort Worth uniform, will take the mound for the Cats.
