
Wilson Homers But Claws Fall 6-4 in Aberdeen

ABERDEEN, MD - Ethan Wilson hit his first BlueClaws home run to give the BlueClaws the lead but Aberdeen rallied and topped the BlueClaws 6-4 on Saturday night, handing the BlueClaws a fifth straight defeat.
The IronBirds (15-5) are now 8-0 against the BlueClaws (6-14) this season and they have taken the first five games in this series, which wraps up on Sunday.
Billy Cook tripled in two runs off Mick Abel in the second inning to put Aberdeen up 2-0. The BlueClaws struck back quickly with three runs in the top of the third. Johan Rojas singled in one and before Ethan Wilson hit his first BlueClaws home run to give Jersey Shore a 3-2 lead.
Abel came out after three innings, allowing two runs, one earned. He struck out five and walked one without factoring in the decision.
The IronBirds came back to take the lead in the fourth, scoring four times off Carlo Reyes (0-1). Connor Pavolony doubled in a run to tie the game before Connor Norby hit a two-run home run to give Aberdeen the lead. Jacob Teter singled home a run later in the inning before Reyes was removed after recording just two outs.
Jersey Shore got a run back in the seventh on an RBI single from Nicolas Torres to cut the lead to 6-4. They then put two on base with one out in the eighth inning but Nick Matera flew out to the wall in left field and Jared Carr grounded out to end the threat.
Aberdeen starter Carlos Tavera (1-0) gave up three runs in five innings to earn the win while Clayton McGinness threw a scoreless ninth inning for his third save.
Tyler McKay (1.1), Dominic Pipkin (1) and Jonathan Hughes (2) combined to throw 4.1 innings of scoreless relief for Jersey Shore.
Johan Rojas stole his 14th base and DJ Stewart stole his 6th base of the season. The BlueClaws, who did not steal a base on Friday for the first time all year, now have 51 on the season in 54 attempts and are the first team in the minors to steal 50 bases this season.
The BlueClaws return home home on Tuesday to welcome Hudson Valley (Yankees) to the Jersey Shore for the first time this year. Tickets are on sale now.
