Charleston Dirty Birds News Release
Charleston, WV (August, 12, 2008) - Power infielders Curt Rindal and Steffan Wilson both turned in remarkable offensive performances during West Virginia's recent home stand, and they were rewarded on Monday when they were named South Atlantic League Co-offensive Players of the Week.
Wilson, Milwaukee's 28th Round pick in the 2007 draft went 16-33 during the eight game home stand and scored 13 times while driving in nine runs. At the end of the home stand, he had taken the league lead in runs batted in with 85. Wilson also hit his 18th homerun of the season in the final game of the home stand. The 18 homers are tied for fifth most in the league.
Rindal really turned it on in West Virginia's series against Hickory. The second year player out of the University of Washington went 9-for-14 against the Crawdads with six runs and 11 RBI. During the home stand, he drove in 13 runs, scored seven times and went 11-for-22. He's currently riding a seven game hitting streak and he has reached safely in each of his last 15 games.
Wilson and Rindal became the third and fourth Power players to be named South Atlantic League players of the week this season. Chris Cody was named the South Atlantic League pitcher of the week in May and Eric Fryer was named the South Atlantic League player of the week back in July.
The Power will continue the four game series against the Augusta GreenJackets at Lake Olmstead Stadium on Tuesday night. The Power will start left hander Lucas Luetge (1-1, 3.52) and the GreenJackets will counter with left hander Craig Clark (6-4, 4.12). The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
