Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

LAKEWOOD, N.J. - While baseball season and hockey season hardly overlap, BlueClaws fans can get a taste of both at Lakewood's annual Hockey Night, presented by Sports Exchange, taking place on Thursday, August 14. This year the BlueClaws will be welcoming a pair of special guests, Philadelphia Flyers winger Riley Cote and Brick-native Jim Dowd, to FirstEnergy Park for the 7:05 p.m. game with the Savannah Sand Gnats, the Class A affiliate of the New York Mets.

Cote, known for his skills as an enforcer, is entering his third season with the Flyers after starting his career in the Toronto organization. Cote played in 70 games with Philadelphia during the 2007-2008 season, scoring one goal and racking up 202 penalty minutes.

Cote will be joining fellow Flyer and Jersey Shore native Jim Dowd at the event. Dowd has been a familiar name since leading Brick Township High School to the New Jersey State title in 1986 and the New Jersey Devils to the Stanley Cup in 1995. He spent the 2007-2008 season with Philadelphia, scoring five goals in 73 games.

"Jim Dowd has been a great friend to the BlueClaws and Riley Cote is a huge fan favorite in Philadelphia," BlueClaws General Manager Geoff Brown said. "Having them both show up for our Hockey Night will make this another event to remember."

Both players will be signing autographs for the fans, thanks to Sports Exchange, formerly known as Consignment Sports, which is located on Route 9 in Howell. Additionally, there will be a speed slapshot for fans to test their own ability with the stick. The first 2,000 fans will also receive BlueClaws team card sets, courtesy of Commerce Bank.

The BlueClaws continue their homestand by taking on the Charleston RiverDogs, the New York Yankees South Atlantic League affiliate, on Friday. Tickets for every remaining BlueClaws game are available online at BlueClaws.com, over the phone at (732) 901-7000 or at the FirstEnergy Park ticket office.
