Greenville Drive News Release
Greenville, SC - You'd be hard-pressed to find a hotter hitter in the South Atlantic League than David Mailman. The 19-year-old continued his torrid August Tuesday night at Fluor Field, finishing 4-for-5 with a pair of RBI in the Drive's (63-57, 23-27) 3-1 victory over the Lexington Legends (39-80, 18-32).
The Legends took a 1-0 lead in the top of second as Jason Fixler scored on a two-out throwing error by Oscar Tejeda. But Mailman quickly erased the deficit, lacing a bases loaded, two-run single in the home half off Luis Pardo (1-7).
In the sixth inning, with David Marks at third and two outs, Mailman drilled a shot to center that Lexington centerfielder Brandon Barnes misplayed for a three-base error and a 3-1 Drive lead, giving Mailman a hand in all three Drive runs on the evening.
During his current seven-game hitting streak, Mailman is batting .423 (11-for-26) with three homers, seven runs batted in, and six runs scored.
Jose Capellan (3-4) turned in a solid performance on the mound, allowing just an unearned run on four hits and a walk, while fanning five over 5.0 innings before giving way to the bullpen.
A pair of Greenville relievers, Javier Garcia and Ryne Miller, did their part, holding the Legends offense scoreless over the final four innings. Garcia scattered five hits and a walk over 2.2 innings, stranding runners in scoring position in the sixth and seventh innings. Miller was perfect over the final 1.1 innings, striking out three to earn his third save.
The Drive and Legends continue their four-game series Wednesday night with first pitch set for 7:05 PM. Right-hander Terumasa Matsuo will take the mound for Greenville as Lexington counters with right-hander Jake Leonhardt.
With a crowd of 4,029 fans, the Drive inched closer to their millionth fan as the total is now 971,724 in 197 games at Fluor Field. In each game until the milestone mark is reached one fan will be selected for the chance to be the honorary millionth fan.
