Hickory Crawdads News Release
Hickory fell behind early, allowed an opponent to hit for the cycle and lost for the 14th time in the last 15 home games, 9-4, to Greensboro on Tuesday. The Grasshoppers' Torre Langley paced a 15-hit Greensboro attack by hitting for the cycle in his first four at-bats, joining West Virginia's Eric Fryer, who hit for the cycle against Hickory on Saturday.
As opposed to the see-saw element of game one in the series, Hickory (15-36, 45-76) fell behind 4-0 in the second inning in game two, cutting the deficit to two runs in the fourth inning but never getting closer after Greensboro (20-31, 58-63) scored three in the top of the fifth.
Fueled by Langley, the 'Hoppers hit four doubles, a triple and a home run as a team. Eight of the nine Greensboro starters had base hits, while six different batters scored and drove in runs.
Hickory's loss came despite another solid night from Adam LaRoche on a rehab assignment and a three-hit game from Keanon Simon. LaRoche went 2-4 in his second game with Hickory, including a double, RBI and run scored.
Simon, though, led the 'Dads with a 3-for-4 night, including his first home run of the year, two runs scored and a walk. It was his fourth three-hit game of the year and his solo shot in the fifth inning joined Jordy Mercer's solo blast in the fourth in the home run department for Hickory.
Walker took the loss, dropping to 3-11 after allowing eight runs (all earned) on 12 hits in 4.1 innings.
Greensboro rookie Bryan Evans earned the win, moving to 2-4 in giving up four runs (all earned) on nine hits.
The Crawdads have now dropped 23 of their last 27 games and have gone 1-14 in their last 15 contests at home.
Hickory seeks its first win of the series in game three Wednesday night at 7. First pitch will feature RHP Rafael De Los Santos (2-9, 5.73 ERA) for Hickory against RHP Kyle Kaminska (5-7, 6.26 ERA) of Greensboro.
