Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release

Fort Wayne, IN - Wizards leftfielder Will Venable became the second Fort Wayne player to be named Midwest League Offensive Player of the Week, earning the weekly award from August 14 through August 20.

Venable hit .464 (13-for-28) as the Wizards swept the Dayton Dragons (Cincinnati Reds affiliate) and have currently won two of four games against the South Bend SilverHawks (Arizona Diamondbacks affiliate).

Venable, who is among the top-10 hitters in the Midwest League, blasted four home runs, drove in 14 runs and scored eight times. He finished the week with a .929 slugging percentage.

The two-sport athlete from Princeton and seventh round pick by the San Diego Padres in the 2005 June Amateur Draft homered twice on Monday against Dayton and capped off his week with a grand slam and five runs batted in during a 13-4 victory against South Bend on Friday.

He raised his batting average 10 points, entering the week with a .309 average and finishing hitting .319. Venable is also in the midst of an eight game hitting streak and has multi-hit games in five of the eight contests.

Venable joins former catcher Nick Hundley as the only other Wizard to win a Midwest League weekly honor. Hundley claimed the Offensive Player of the Week award June 19 (week period of June 12 - June 18).
