Fort Wayne, IN - Right-hander Vern Sterry has been assigned to the Fort Wayne Wizards, marking his third stint with the team. Sterry was with the Wizards in 2004 and 2005 before landing on the disabled list in early July last year with a right shoulder strain.

He made one appearance with the Lake Elsinore Storm of the California League, pitching two innings and allowing one run (4.50 ERA) on three hits and one strikeout.

Selected in the eighth-round of the 2004 June Amateur Draft from North Carolina State, Sterry made a total of 14 starts in 2004 between Fort Wayne and the Eugene Emeralds of the Northwest League.

Sterry was 4-3 with a 4.58 ERA in 20 appearances, including four starts with the Wizards before his injury in 2005. In 55 innings of work, he allowed 58 hits and 13 walks, while striking out 50.

Sterry will be in uniform when the Wizards wrap up their two-game series tonight against the South Bend SilverHawks (Arizona Diamondbacks affiliate).

Following back-to-back off days on Tuesday and Wednesday, Fort Wayne will be back on the road for four games against the West Michigan Whitecaps (Detroit Tigers affiliate) starting on Thursday and four games against the Clinton LumberKings (Texas Rangers affiliate) beginning on August 28.
