Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
DAYTON, OH -- One day after the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers could not hold an early 5-0 lead at Fifth Third Field against the Dayton Dragons, the Rattlers rallied from a 4-0 deficit to beat the Dragons 5-4. Johan Limonta homered and drove in three runs for the Rattlers. Adam Moore hit a home run in the top of the eighth for the winning run. Paul Fagan earned the victory for the Rattlers, who earned a split in the four game series with the Dragons.
Dayton hitters teed off on Fagan in the first inning. He gave up a walk and five straight hits and the Dragons (63-64 overall, 28-29 second half) were up 4-0 before an out was recorded in the first. Jay Bruce had an RBI double during the inning. Adam Rosales had a two run single and Craig Tatum added an RBI single of his own.
Fagan settled down in the second inning and struck out the side. That seemed to get the Rattler offense going.
Wisconsin (47-81, 20-38) scored three times in the top of the third. A single by Limonta with the bases loaded and one out scored the first two runs of the inning. A wild pitch by Dragon starting pitcher Daniel Guerrero allowed the other run to score.
Limonta lined a solo homer to right off Guerrero with one out in the top of the fifth inning to even the game 4-4.
Fagan settled down after the first inning. He would allow no more runs, three more hits, and match his career high for strikeouts with eight.
Dragon reliever Bo Lanier entered the game in the top of the sixth inning and retired the first seven batters he faced. Then, Adam Moore launched an opposite field homer to deep right center to put the Rattlers up 5-4.
Fagan got the first two outs of the bottom of the eighth inning, but gave up a single to Bruce and Brian Kappel came on in relief. Kappel got Rosales to pop out end the eighth.
Kappel worked a 1-2-3 ninth to finish off the Dragons and to earn his sixth save of the season.
The Rattlers are off Tuesday and Wednesday before returning to action on Thursday night at Fox Cities Stadium. The Rattlers will host the Clinton LumberKings in the first game of a four game series. Those four games against the LumberKings will be the final four home games of the 2006 season. Game time on Thursday night is 7:05pm.
