Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
BURLINGTON, IA -- The Burlington Bees beat the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 2-1 in ten innings on Sunday afternoon at Community Field. The winning run scored on a wild throw by Rattler pitcher Lance Beus. Both the Rattlers and Bees had several opportunities to break a 1-1 tie late in the game, but neither could take advantage until the throwing error in the tenth. The two teams split their four game series in Burlington.
Burlington (48-49 overall, 13-17 second half) scored the first run of the game on a long home run to leftcenter by Miguel Vega in the bottom of the fourth.
Wisconsin (37-63, 10-20) tied the game 1-1 in the top of the fifth inning on a two-out RBI double by Kuo Hui Lo. After that, neither team had a good scoring chance until the eighth.
Rattler starting pitcher David Asher pitched a career high seven innings and gave up one run on two hits with two walks and two strikeouts. But, he picked up a no decision.
Wisconsin had a chance in the top of the eighth inning after an error put Lo on first to start the frame, but Chris Hayes got out of the inning with three strikeouts.
Burlington had a chance in the bottom of the eighth against reliever Edgar Guaramato. The first two batters reached on a single and a walk. Guaramato got out of the inning with three straight force outs.
The Rattlers had another opportunity in the top of the ninth inning. Robby Hudson reached on a one out single and went to second on a wild pitch, but Hayes got out of the inning.
Burlington had another opportunity in the bottom of the ninth. Wisconsin reliever Lance Beus waked Mario Lisson to start the inning and after Vega dropped a sacrifice bunt, Beus walked Jeff Howell intentionally and Brady Everett unintentionally to load the bases with one out. But, Beus got a pop out and a ground out to send the game to extra innings.
Hayes pitched a 1-2-3 tenth inning. Beus did not.
An infield single by Valentino Arce started the game winning rally. Next, Beus walked Jose Duarte, the fourth free pass issued by Beus in the game. Josh Johnson was called on to bunt the runners over, but his attempt went right back to Beus, who had a play at third base to force Arce. However, Beus threw the ball wildly and Arce walked home with the game winning run.
The Rattlers return home for a four game series with the South Bend Silver Hawks that starts on Monday night. Jose Escalona (5-9, 3.73ERA) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Rattlers. Adam Howard (5-2, 3.30ERA) Is slated to start for the Hawks. Game time at Fox Cities Stadium is 7:05pm.
