Devil Rays shutout Wizards

July 23, 2006 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Southwest Michigan Devil Rays News Release

The Southwest Michigan Devil Rays defeated the Fort Wayne Wizards on Sunday afternoon for the second game in a row. The Rays won in convincing fashion by earning a 3-0 shutout. The win gives the D-Rays a split in the final series between the clubs at C.O. Brown Stadium.

Greg Reinhard was lights out on Sunday afternoon against the Fort Wayne Wizards. He tossed seven frames of shut-out ball before being lifted because of pitch count. Reinhard allowed only three hits in the contest in which he struck out nine. He walked two batters in the game but one was intentional. Reinhard picked up his fourth win of the season with his performance.

Drew Bigda entered the game in relief of Reinhard in the eighth inning. He walked one batter and denied the Wizards of a hit. Jeff Kamrath came in to record the final out of the eighth. Kamrath earned his second save of the year by striking out the side in the ninth.

Matt Devins played first base for only the third time this season but looked very comfortable at the 3-spot. Devins went 1-1 with a sacrifice fly, a run scored, and an RBI.

Rhyne Hughes entered the game as a defensive replacement for Devins in the seventh inning. In his only at-bat, Hughes crushed a solo home run over the right field wall and on to Bridge Street.

Jason St. Clair had a solid afternoon at the plate by going 2-4 with an RBI and a stolen base. Colt Simmons hit a lead off triple in the fifth inning and was driven home on Devins' sac fly.

The Devil Rays will now travel to Davenport, Iowa to face the Swing of the Quad Cities for a four game series. They will then travel to Fort Wayne to play their final four games against the Wizards. The Rays will return home on August 1st to play a four-gamer against the Kane County Cougars.
