Wild Things Use Big First Inning to Down Freedom
June 25, 2015 - Frontier League (FL)
Florence Y'alls News Release
(Florence, KY) - The Florence Freedom (14-22), presented by Titan Mechanical Solutions, fell behind early and couldn't catch up in a 4-2 loss to the Washington Wild Things (14-22) Thursday night.
Washington plated four runs in the first inning off Florence starter Ryan Davis (0-1). With the bases loaded and nobody out, Carter Bell delivered a sacrifice fly. Scott Kalamar followed with a three-run home run to put the Wild Things up 4-0.
Davis settled down after that, going five innings in his Freedom debut.
But Florence's offense could not do enough against Washington pitching as Wild Things starter Kyle Helisek (3-2) went six innings, allowing only one run on four hits to pick up the victory.
Travis Weaver doubled to start to the third inning. He went to third on a Zack Burling fly out and scored on a Justin Harris grounder to cut the deficit to 4-1.
The Freedom tallied another run in the eighth on a Collins Cuthrell RBI single to score Daniel Fraga. With runners at first and second and one out, down 4-2, Sam Eberle lined into a double play, ending the frame. Jonathan Kountis picked up the save with a scoreless ninth.
Florence heads to Crestwood, IL to take on the Windy City ThunderBolts on Friday. First pitch is set for 8:05 p.m. eastern time. Fans can tune in at http://mixlr.com/florencefreedom/.
