Wild Things rally late, beat Evansville
July 19, 2005 - Frontier League (FL)
Evansville Otters News Release
The Otters scored a pair of runs in the first inning on a couple of unusual plays. First, Jeff Goldbach caught Washington napping as on an infield single from Trask Munoz, scoring from second on the play. The Otters got their second run when Cole Hilt scored on a wild pitch on which pitcher Brendon Davis missed the tag at the plate.
The Wild Things scored two in the fourth to make it a 2-2 game, but the Otters got the two back in the bottom of the inning to retake a 4-2 lead. Washington scored a run in the fifth on a triple by Pat O'Brien to make it 4-3.
Evansville got an insurance run in the seventh inning on a sacrifice fly by Brian McKenna to make it 5-3 with the Otters in front.
However, the Otters defense imploded in the eighth as they committed a pair of errors, which snowballed into five Wild Things runs in the eighth and three in the ninth to take the lead and the win.
Nathan Stone (1-2) took the loss in relief for the Otters. Jim Popp (2-2) pitched 2.2 innings of one run ball for Washington to pick up the win.
Cody Blackard (3-0) will start the series finale tomorrow for Evansville against J. D. Cockroft (0-3) for Washington with the game starting at 7:05 p.m.
