RiverHawks drop second in a row at River City

O'FALLON, Mo. - The RiverHawks made it interesting, but eventually lost to the Rascals 10-7, dropping their second in a row at River City.

The Rascals broke the game open with three runs in the sixth and four more in the seventh to make it 10-3. Jon Williams drove in four of those seven runs with singles in each inning. In the two frames combined, 17 men came to the plate and there were seven hits, three walks, one error, and one hit-by-pitch.

Rockford Rookie Dave Dowling (0-1) made his pro start and took the loss, throwing 5 1/3 innings, giving up six runs on nine hits while striking out five.

River City reliever Chris Webb (1-1) picked up the win despite allowing three runs in two innings and Pat Evers closed it out for his second save of the year.

The RiverHawks made it close in the eighth, scoring four times. With the bases loaded and one out, Chris DiBlasi singled home a run with his third hit of the night. The next batter, Kevin Ciarrachi, followed with a two-run double and Jeremy Busch capped off the scoring with an RBI single to make it 10-7.

Three of the ‘Hawks' seven runs came on the long ball. In the second, Ashley Farr hit his first professional home run, a solo shot. In the fourth, DiBlasi hit a two-run homer, his first of the season.

Wednesday's series finale is a special start time with first pitch at 12:05 p.m. The 'Hawks are the defending champions of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league in its 13th season. All games are broadcasted live on WRHL-FM, 102.3 - the Hub.
