Wild Things Fall to Florence

Florence, KY- The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial, fall to the Florence Freedom 12-3 in the final game of the series at UC Health Stadium. The bats were hot and the runners were fast in an exciting game that included two inside the park homeruns.

The Freedom got things started early in the bottom of the first inning as leadoff batter Cole Miles hit a triple off the center field wall and would be brought in by Zak Blair's sacrifice fly into center field. Third baseman Carter Bell got things started for the Wild Things in an exciting manor in the top of the second with Washington's first inside the park home run of the season. Bell also earned his first home run of the year and would square the ball game up at one a piece.

The scoring continued in the bottom of the second for the Freedom with an RBI single from the designated hitter Rob Kelly to bring in Ben Kline and put Florence back on top 2-1. Florence picked up their third run in three innings as Sam Eberle hit an RBI single to bring around Orrin Sears who came on for the injured Miles at center field.

The runs continued in the top of the fourth as Washington was able to chip away at the lead and put another run on the board. Right fielder Steward Ijames picked up his 41st RBI of the season bringing in short stop Garrett Rau to close the gap and make the score 3-2.

Before the Wild Things could try and take over the lead, Florence picked up two more runs in the bottom of the fourth with a two run home run from Rob Kelly to open up the lead to 5-2. The Wild Things had one final run in the ball game in the seventh when Carter Bell got the inning started with a leadoff double. Bell would later steal third base and score off an RBI from first baseman Connor Lewis to bring the score to 5-3.

With a few insurance runs in the bottom of the seventh, the Freedom scored six runs on five hits to put the game out of reach for the Wild Things. Michael Wilson would add one more run in the bottom of the eight with an inside the park home run of his own to make the score 12-3.
