Wild Things and Sliders Split Double Header

Ypsilanti, MI - The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, split a double header with the Mid West Sliders. Washington lost the first game 8-4 and they won the second game by a score of 8-1.

Errors and missed opportunities found Washington in the loss column of game one in the first game of a double header in Ypsilanti Saturday evening.

Jacob Dempsey smacked solo home run in the first inning, and another in the sixth.

The Midwest Sliders scored four runs in the second inning and two more in the fourth.

Washington's score in the fifth, a Chris Raniere RBI (plating Alan Robbins), was immediately answered in the bottom of the inning when Slider, Lee Rubin smacked a solo shot to centerfield.

Ryan Groth scored on an error in the sixth, bringing Washington within three.

But Midwest added another run for insurance in the bottom of the sixth.

Zach Groh (5-5) took the loss for Washington, allowing six hits and six runs (one earned) in four innings of work. Mike Darrah and Mike Lucas pitched in relief.

The Wild Things jumped out to an early lead in the second game when they scored three runs in the first inning.

In the fifth inning Dempsey smacked yet another solo shot. Grant Psomas followed up with a two run double and Groth had a two run single.

Chris Ingoglia (6-8), who pitched a complete game, got the win for Washington, allowing, one run on three hits, striking out seven, and walking two. The Wild Things and Sliders meet for the third and final game of this series Sunday when first pitch is scheduled for 2:05 p.m. Airtime on WJPA 95.3 F.M. is 1:55 p.m. RHP Brian McCullough will take the mound for Washington. The Wild Things return to CONSOL Energy Park for their final six games of the season Tuesday. Tickets are available at the box office.
