Traverse City Beach Bums News Release
TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. -- The Traverse City Beach Bums were rained out for the second consecutive night on Saturday as their scheduled doubleheader with the Lake Erie Crushers was postponed.
The two teams will meet in a doubleheader on Sunday night, with a pair of seven-inning contests slated to begin at 4:05pm. The rainout means that the teams will play only two of the three scheduled games in the series as the third game will not be made up with just over a week remaining in the season. The rainout was the third of the season at Wuerfel Park including yesterday.
The doubleheader will be the fourth of the season and the third caused by rain. The Beach Bums are 1-5 in doubleheader games having split with the Southern Illinois Miners following the first ever rainout at Wuerfel Park in a twin bill on May 28, losing 1-0 in 11 innings before a 7-3 win in the night cap. The Beach Bums played a scheduled doubleheader on June 7 against Evansville, losing 8-2 and 7-3. Rain caused a doubleheader at Rockford on July 9 with the Beach Bums losing 11-1 and 8-0.
Traverse City has played a total of seven doubleheaders in franchise history, none of those have been at home. The Beach Bums played two doubleheaders in 2008, finishing 1-3 in doubleheader contests. Rain in Kalamazoo on July 2 forced a doubleheader on July 3, and the Beach Bums fell 12-3 in the first game before winning the nightcap in extra innings 4-3. The Beach Bums also appeared in a doubleheader at Gateway on July 31, losing 2-1 in extras and falling 2-0 in the finale.
Overall, the Beach Bums own a record of 5-9 in doubleheaders, sweeping Windy City in a twin-bill on August 7, 2007, and splitting at Kalamazoo on August 29, 2006.
The Beach Bums are 5-4 against Lake Erie this season and tomorrow night will place RHP David Nathanson (6-9, 3.90) on the mound for the first contest and RHP David Dinelli (2-5, 7.71) on the mound in game two. Lake Erie plans to send RHP Alberto Rolon (3-1, 3.60) and RHP Brent Lysander (9-1, 4.48).
